Audiences for the Service Members, Veterans, and their Families Technical Assistance (SMVF TA) Center

SMVF TA Center's target audiences include state and territory interagency teams that have graduated from one of SAMHSA’s SMVF Policy Academies.

Teams generally include, at minimum, senior representatives from:

  • The governor’s office
  • State agencies responsible for mental health, substance abuse, and veterans affairs
  • National Guard (i.e., The Adjutant General or his/her representative)
  • Medicaid and/or Social Security
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 
  • State/territory initiatives such as Joining Forces, Joining Community Forces, or Community Blueprint, if such an initiative exists
  • Private sector leadership from programs serving the health and behavioral health needs of service members, veterans, and their families
  • A service member or veteran who has experienced behavioral health problems
  • A family member of a service member or veteran who has experienced behavioral health problems

Depending on their needs and priorities, states and territories also include leadership from the following groups on their teams:

  • The public and private sectors in labor/employment, criminal justice, housing/homelessness, primary care, substance abuse and mental health services (including suicide prevention), and child/family issues
  • Reserve Affairs
  • Veteran service organizations
  • State and/or local legislators
  • Federally recognized tribes
  • Public school systems
  • The faith-based community
  • Colleges and universities
  • Advocacy groups and social/public health organizations or coalitions
